Muscle Cars for Sale
Muscle Cars. This is a revered term known throughout the U.S., referring to those cars mainly made in the 60's and 70's that are American-made, with powerful engines, designed for high=performance driving and only 2 doors. Since then, the term has gained traction across the world from classic Hollywood movies!
The Lifestyle of Muscle Cars
After the post-war 50's, America was crying out for something new and rebellious. While some people turned to the swinging 60's, hippy side of things, others went the opposite route, full-on man against nature. Nothing epitomised this more than the motorbikes and muscle cars of the 60's.
Muscle cars have a feeling of intensity, drive and motivation behind them. While most cars feel like they are pulling you toward a destination, sitting in the front seat and feeling all the torque from behind you, pushing you forward is a feeling like no other. Muscle-car enthusiasts are normally those interested in getting close with their cars, taking them apart and putting them back together, almost all are motorheads, and most of them know their way around a crankshaft!
Muscle cars and movies
Due to the world of Hollywood and the world of motoring making great leaps around the same time, directors loved the intensity of motorbikes and muscle cars. Due to this, many of the most iconic and memorable hero and action movies from the 60's and 70's contained muscle cars. Just to name a few, we have the Ford Mustang from Bullitt, the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit, and the always memorable classic, the Dodge Charger from Dukes of Hazzard.
The most memorable Muscle cars
While many companies made muscle cars when it became on-trend, those that developed it originally are generally agreed to be Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford. The most popular Chevys tend to be the Chevelle, Malibu and Monte Carlo. The Dodges tend to be the aforementioned Charger, the Super Bee and the Coronet. While the Fords are the Torino, Thunderbolt, Galaxie and of course, the Mustang, probably the final word in muscle cars.
Important muscle car events
There is now a growing nostalgia for muscle cars, especially as a blowback against the now rising tide of environmentally friendly cars, and because muscle cars are very much a part of American culture, most events tend to be in America. The biggest one which happens every year tends to be the American Muscle Mustang show in August. There is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, also in August, the Charlotte Auto Fair in April and September, and the newest to the scene, the Telluride Festival of Cars & Colors in September.
